// our story

  1. 2021

    // the origin

    A monthly beer with four or five geeks

    Business partners Sharon Gutierrez and Monty Morgan moved to San Antonio and wanted a way to meet other geeky, tech-minded friends. They launched a monthly meetup where often just four or five people would show up to grab a beer and talk about their side projects.

    // filling the opportunity gaps

    Building the local workforce

    Through years of consistency, that small table has grown into a thriving network of over 2,500 members — primarily software engineers, cybersecurity experts, and IT professionals. While our staple Geeks && Drinks mixer continues to bring in an average of 45 in-person attendees each month, our vision and calendar have expanded far beyond a single social night. We started expanding our events to include volunteering, resume review, and local software office tours.

    To match, the Geeks && Drinks meetup became Geeks&& the organization. The end of the name is left open on purpose: whatever gap the community needs filled, we can fill it — Geeks && Resumes, Geeks && Volunteering, Geeks && whatever comes next.

    // the second annual ai april

    From casual networking to real upskilling

    A prime example of our local impact is our AI April initiative. In 2026, our second annual AI April saw over 100% year-over-year growth, bringing together 1,000 attendees to learn, build, and connect.

    Driven by a passion for creating safe, inclusive spaces, we are bridging the gap between casual networking and tangible workforce development. By keeping our programming accessible and focused on upskilling, we equip job seekers, junior developers, and seasoned pros alike to advance their careers and deepen their roots right here in San Antonio.
